NEW: Announcing the sequel, "Independent America: Rising from Ruins." Read the New Orleans Times Picayune article and watch the trailer.
We're on the lookout for "Mom & Pop" -- producing our own road movie across the United States. More than ever it seems like it's Independent America vs. Corporate Chain store America. We went hunting for those pressure points along with our black lab Miles. We tried to make our 55-day trip without relying on interstate highways, corporate chain restaurants, motels or stores.
What we discovered, and experienced, was surprising. The expedition allowed us to capture an America at a historical and ideological crossroads. Where even the health of its democracy hinges on the survival of independent business. And where many citizens are increasingly concerned that they have lost control over the nation's large and powerful institutions. Which is why "local" matters more than ever. And now we're working on the sequel, "Independent America: Rising from Ruin" -- which focuses on New Orleans.

You can also buy the DVD (from the first film), and watch us discuss it on ABC News (it's a 30 mb video file, so give it a few seconds to upload).
